Virginia Tech Student Athletic Performance Center

The Student Athletic Performance Center project was a renovation and addition to the Jamerson Athletic Center for long-time repeat-client, Virginia Tech. The fourth floor of Jamerson was converted into a new dining facility that focuses on providing student athletes with performance-based nutrition in support of Virginia Tech’s vision to provide a state-of-the-art dining facility for Virginia Tech athletes. Along with the renovation, the fourth floor was extended to the south, supported by new columns set outside the existing façade. The existing roof was replaced with a structure that slopes up to the South to take advantage of the view of Lane Stadium and the football practice facility and fi eld. Balconies extended from the addition to provide seasonal outdoor seating. An elevator tower was also added to streamline access for deliveries and servicing. The existing connection from Cassell Coliseum to Jamerson had its interiors refreshed; the existing exterior walls, roof and structure remained. The entire facility is now provided with accessibility features to all spaces. Thoughtful planning and sequencing by Branch allowed the project to progress safely and expeditiously while other University activities within the facilities remained fully operational.
