Virginia Tech Dietrick Hall
Blacksburg, VA
Having completed an improvement project to the original Virginia Tech Dietrick Hall in 2004, Branch managed a new phase of facility modernization within this popular, award winning university dining facility. Dietrick Hall is a dynamic, multi-use campus dining center that includes an international, marketplace-style dining function. This latest first-floor improvement project consisted of the interior renovation of the existing Deet’s Place, DXpress, and associated public spaces. It also included the expansion of the first-floor area to enclose exterior space below the second-floor overhang and provides new entrance locations. The newly renovated space provided enhanced dining venue space as well as expanded student seating and study space. The project also included the demolition and transformation of the existing Dietrick Plaza into a new “Spirit Plaza” outdoor space. The new plaza included new hardscape, landscape, outdoor seating and informal recreation space. Additionally, the Hokie Bird statue in Cassell Coliseum was relocated to a new pedestal located within the enhanced plaza. Branch utilized a carefully developed phasing plan to perform the work while safely maintaining ongoing daily owner activities within the occupied facility.
