Virginia Tech CRC Integrated Life Sciences Building
Blacksburg, VA
Constructed in 16 months, the new research building, known as Integrated Life Sciences Building (ILSB) was an 80,000sf building located in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. The ILSB Building 23 is a 2-story building which houses office space and research labs for the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Natural Resources, Science and Virginia/Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
The building was comprised of a steel frame with an exterior façade of two color brick veneer with traditional “Hokie Stone” accent features. An 11,000sf state-of-the-art atrium with informal meeting spaces is situated on the ground floor in the center of the building, along with a seminar room with video conferencing capabilities. The ILSB facility also included a significant number of MEP systems to support the large number of lab facilities.
Main laboratories connected by equipment corridors, are located around the periphery of the building to allow for natural lighting and to provide a stimulating work environment. Between the main laboratories and the equipment corridors are shared specialty laboratories, including tissue culture rooms, fume hood rooms and microscopy rooms. The building also houses an Advanced Separation and Imaging of Living Cells Facility available for cell manipulation and sorting, data analysis, consultation, instrument training, experiment troubleshooting, lectures and workshops.
