Luray Caverns Airport

Luray, VA

Branch delivered a multi-phase infrastructure project at Luray Airport that supported roadway relocation, airfield grading, and utility improvements to prepare the site for future runway expansion and enhanced operations.

Phase 1 involved clearing and grubbing, erosion and sediment control, and demolition of an existing building and retaining wall.

Phase 2 included the relocation of Airport Road (SR 652) and Homestead Drive (SR 647), utility installation, and inspections by VDOT and the Town of Luray for water and sewer infrastructure.

Phase 3 included final airfield grading, demolition of decommissioned roads and utilities, installation of an airfield security fence, and construction of water quality facilities. After traffic was shifted to the new road, the old roadway was removed and 80,000 cubic yards of excess material were used to build an embankment at the opposite end of the runway—a location identified for potential future runway extension.
