When we take on a project – no matter how large it might be – we make a promise to the communities we serve. We promise to manage our resources wisely, do our best to protect the natural world, and address climate concerns.
The team who planned and built the massive 1-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension – commonly called FredEx – earned the Silver Envision rating by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI).
The ten-mile extension of the 95 Express Lanes is the first road project in Virginia to receive an award under the Envision Sustainability Framework.
Managed by ISI, the rating system evaluates all types of public and private projects, setting the standard to help communities build sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
“Our Branch teams worked with our trade partners and the community,” said Yisehak Shata, Branch senior project manager. “Together, we were dedicated to excellent construction and business practices. We wanted to set the standard for sustainable, reliable, and conscious transportation infrastructure.”
To earn this impressive rating, our teams had to minimize construction impacts, utilize recycled materials, and to enhance the community’s quality of life and stakeholder collaboration.
Thank you to our partners, VDOT, Flatiron Construction, and Transurban North America. We’re proud of our accomplishments and the positive impact we’ve had on our community.
