Roanoke Civic Center Special Events Center

Roanoke, VA

The Roanoke Civic Center (now named the Berglund Center) new Special Events Center expansion project was designed to complement to the existing Coliseum, Exhibit Hall, and Performing Arts Theatre, providing additional space for larger shows and conventions. Branch was the successful low bidder on this dynamic, highly visible project and worked closely with the City of Roanoke, Civic Center officials and Rosser International to deliver the new facility. This dynamic new facility includes open event space with a 32′ ceiling height, a spacious lobby, exhibit space, concession stands, storage areas, and loading docks. The project scope also included renovations to the existing Coliseum’s locker rooms, renovations to the existing Exhibit Hall, and a new marshaling area for the Coliseum. Branch was successful in finding $500,000 in cost savings during the project, which allowed for the accommodation of the alternate foundation design necessitated by the unsuitable soils encountered. Tactical solutions included assembling portions of the roof system (with installed mechanical and electrical components) on the ground prior to lifting into place, which simplified subcontractor activities and increased efficiency. Our professionals were able to safely deliver the project while maintaining full public access to the other Civic Center facilities and all scheduled events.
