I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg

Stafford County, VA

Branch is the lead Joint Venture partner responsible for constructing this $420M design-build (D-B) project in VDOT’s Fredericksburg District. The project continues the reversible express lanes in the median of I-95, adding three lanes for approximately 1.5 miles, and two lanes for another 8.5 miles from Route 610 (Exit 143) in Stafford County south to the vicinity of Route 17 (Exit 133) near Fredericksburg. Included are new access points including flyover ramps at the Route 17 terminus and Quantico area (Fuller Road). Additional access was added near the Route 17 and Route 630 (Courthouse Road) I-95 interchanges in Stafford, and near the Russell Road interchange at Quantico Marine Corps Base north of the 10-mile extension in Prince William County. The project includes seven new bridge structures. The finished roadway presents a greater variety of travel options including increased attractiveness of rideshare and transit use and a bypass option for vehicles with multiple occupants. From groundbreaking to completion, the extension is expected to deliver economic development benefits to the Fredericksburg and Stafford communities by creating more than 9,100 jobs, generating $1.1 billion in economic activity, and investing over $75 million in procurement from DBE and SWaM designated businesses. Branch as the Lead oversaw all aspects of design and construction. Branch self-performed all mass grading, erosion control, MOT, drainage, fine grading, base stone placement activities, some structural work and contract administration and coordination with QA/QC.
