Branch expands equipment repair capabilities with line boring technology

June 12, 2026

Branch’s new in-house line boring services help reduce equipment downtime and extend fleet life

When heavy equipment breaks down, productivity on the job site can come to a halt. To keep projects moving efficiently, Branch has expanded its equipment maintenance capabilities by adding line boring technology to the Branch Equipment Shop.

This advanced machining capability allows Branch Civil technicians to repair and restore worn pin and bushing locations on critical heavy equipment components, helping ensure equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently in the field.

What Is line boring?

Line boring is a precision machining process used to restore damaged, worn, or misaligned holes in heavy equipment components back to their original specifications. Over time, the continuous stress placed on excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and other construction equipment can cause these connection points to become oversized or out of alignment.

Using specialized line boring equipment, Branch technicians rebuild worn areas and machine them back to exact tolerances. This process restores proper fit, improves performance, and helps prevent future equipment failures.

“By adding line boring, we can extend the life of our critical equipment and reduce downtime,” said Colin Hinkley, superintendent in Branch’s in-house shop in Roanoke. “We can now restore worn components to exact specifications and get our equipment back to work on the job site.”

Benefits of in-house line boring services

Adding line boring capabilities provides several advantages for our operations, including:

  • Reduced equipment downtime

  • Faster repair turnaround times

  • Less reliance on third-party repair vendors

  • Extended service life of heavy equipment components

  • Improved equipment performance and reliability

  • Lower long-term maintenance costs

By performing these repairs in-house, Branch can return equipment to service more quickly while protecting its investment in its construction fleet. “This capability strengthens our shop, supports our crews, and ultimately helps us deliver better results on every project,” Hinkley said.

Investing in Reliable Equipment and Project Success

As Branch continues to invest in advanced equipment maintenance technology, employee expertise, and operational efficiency, capabilities like line boring help ensure crews have reliable equipment when and where they need it.

By reducing downtime, extending equipment life, and improving repair capabilities, Branch is strengthening its ability to deliver high-quality infrastructure and construction projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
