Branch and Balfour Beatty Earn DBIA Southeast Regional Award for I-295 Design-Build Project in North Carolina

May 7, 2026

The I-295 Design-Build Project has been recognized with a prestigious Southeast Region Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Award in the Transportation Projects Over $100 Million category, highlighting the power of collaboration, innovation, and disciplined project delivery. The 39-mile Fayetteville Outer Loop project provided a crucial, fully accessible freeway bypass and improved access to Fort Bragg. The final six-mile stretch, connecting I-95 in Robeson County to Camden Road in Cumberland, was delivered as a joint venture by Branch, Balfour Beatty, and STV Engineers.

The project earned recognition for its innovative design approach, strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship, and ability to maximize the value of available funding while executing a complex, large-scale transportation infrastructure project.

From the moment the project was awarded, construction teams mobilized immediately and remained focused on one goal: delivering results the right way.

The DBIA award recognizes construction performance, the collaborative nature of the design-build process, and the strength of partnerships built between owners, designers, contractors, and field teams throughout every phase of the project.

“This recognition reflects the hard work, collaboration, and commitment of everyone involved in the project,” said Bob Wills, Branch chief executive officer. “Projects of this size and complexity require trust, teamwork, and a shared focus on safety, quality, and execution.”

The Design-Build Institute of America’s regional awards program honors projects that demonstrate excellence in design-build delivery and showcase the benefits of integrated project teams. Winning projects are selected based on innovation, collaboration, schedule performance, cost efficiency, and overall project impact.

For Branch, the recognition reinforces our continued commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects that strengthen transportation networks and support growing communities across the Southeast.

The I-295 project stands as another example of what can be accomplished when strong partners work together with a shared commitment to excellence.
