I-64 Widening Exit 200-205

The I-64 widening was completed in two years, under schedule, and under budget. The goal of this The goals of this project were to increase visibility for VDOT traffic cameras and create additional traffic capacity throughout a corridor of I-64 that has experienced a large number of accidents in the past. Construction began in August 2017 and was completed in August 2019. Improvements included:

  • A 12-foot wide travel lane and a 10-foot wide shoulder in both directions.
  • Widened bridges over the Chickahominy River.
  • Improved acceleration and deceleration lanes at the northbound and southbound truck weigh stations.
  • Box culvert extensions.
  • An enclosed pedestrian tunnel between the eastbound and westbound truck weigh stations.
  • New sound mitigation walls.
  • Roadway safety lighting at the eastbound and westbound truck weigh stations.
